Not sure exactly how to connect two monitors to a laptop? Then use our proven methods to do this!
Multiple monitors per PC is a popular solution to increase productivity, especially when using a laptop. However, the question arises, how to connect external monitors to a laptop? Let us find out.
Before getting started, you should make sure that your Windows laptop supports two monitors, depending on your Windows OS, video card, and drivers.
Method 1: Check your graphics card
Ensure that the video card in your laptop supports two monitors (video cards have two outputs). Check the properties of the video card and its specifications. When an NVIDIA GeForce video card is used, all the necessary information can be found on its manufacturer’s official website.
Method 2: Check available ports
Your computer/laptop has any of these ports:
- Display Port – provides an interface with additional audio protection.
- Digital Video Interface (DVI) – has color coding and white plastic stickers.
- Video graphics array (VGA) – has blue plastic labeling.
- High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) – allows you to connect a variety of video devices with the ability to transmit audio over the cable.
Check the ports on the back/side of the laptop. Monitors also have these ports. If they are not, then purchase an additional adapter from DVI to HDMI or vice versa to match them.
The connection of the two monitors must be set up with the laptop turned on. First, connect the cable of the first external monitor to the correct video port on the laptop. Next, click the cable of the second external monitor to the other desired port.
Now right-click on any empty desktop area on the laptop and select Display Settings/Screen Resolution.
In-display mode, you will see three displays labeled 1, 2, and 3. Display 1 is your laptop monitor, displays 2 and 3 are external monitors. Click on display two and select Extend the desktop to this display. Next, press display 3, like Extend desktop to this display. Click OK to complete the settings!
Our methods should help you connect two or three monitors to your laptop, which will help increase your work efficiency.
