The Anniversary Update for Windows 10 has brought many fixes and pulled a few unexpected tricks on unsuspecting users. For example, owners of NVIDIA graphics cards could not open their NVIDIA Control Panel after the update – their PC just didn’t react to clicks.
The explanation for this issue has been found very quickly. The update made your system think that your NVIDIA drivers are ok and up to date, while in reality, they were not. In order to solve this problem, you need to download the latest drivers for your graphics card model. After installing the driver, your NVIDIA Control Panel will work as intended.
Follow these steps to fix the problem with NVIDIA Control Panel not opening on Windows 10 Anniversary Update:
Press Win+X on your keyboard and select Device Manager from the menu (alternatively, you can just right-click the Start button to open the same menu)
When you are in the Device Manager menu, find Display Adapters and expand it.
Double-click your graphics card.
Go to the Driver.
You will see five buttons in the window to appear, click on the Update Driver button.
Now select “Search automatically for updated driver software” to let your system to initiate a search for the needed driver.
Wait for the driver to be installed, then click Close.
Close the Device Manager window.
When the system asks you to restart your computer – click Yes.
The problem with the NVIDIA Control Panel not working after the installation of the Anniversary Update is a common thing. Thankfully, it is just a minor bug that can be fixed easily with new drivers.
